How to Keep Your Employees Healthy
As a business owner, you would want all your employees to be present at work every day so that your enterprise will be productive. You cannot afford to be short-staffed, which could cause your company to lose money. To lessen absences, keep your staff healthy. First, educate your people on how to live a proper lifestyle. Explain to them the benefits of exercising daily, eating the right food, avoiding unhealthy substances, following positive habits. You can invite a medical specialist or doctor to give a short lecture on these aspects of good health. Yes, it may be an extra expense but the benefits will far outweigh the cost.
Next, provide your workers with a sufficient amount of break time. Usually a one-hour lunch break and a quarter-hour break each in the morning and afternoon is adequate. In addition, stock up your pantry with nutritious food such as vegetable sticks, fruits, oatmeal, nuts, and grains. This will encourage the staff to nibble on nutrient-packed meals rather than going out to grab fattening fast food.
Moreover, make sure that your work environment is clean. Make it a policy that each worker cleans his desk completely during and after work hours. There should also be a rule in the company in which each person should clean common areas such as the pantry and conference room after every use. Also, provide some anti-bacterial soap or hand sanitiser in your bathroom. Your workers must wash their hands after coughing, sneezing, eating, or going to the lavatory.
Finally, encourage your staff to have an active lifestyle by organising activities that enable them to exercise their bodies. Sports programs, outdoor recreational activities, and outreach programs are good examples of such events.
